S'porean man, 24, invited girl, 13, to his house for drinks & dared her to sit on him, jailed & caned for statutory rape

A 24-year-old Singaporean man met a 13-year-old girl online and invited her over to his house in 2023.

He then played "truth or dare" with her and dared her to remove her clothes and sit on him.

They eventually had sexual intercourse, which later caused the girl to feel “stupid” and blame herself.

The man, Xavier Ting Jun Jie, was later arrested and pleaded guilty to statutory rape.

He was sentenced on Mar. 4 to nine years and five months' jail and six strokes of the cane.

Ting, now 27, met the then-13-year-old girl on a social networking application “OMI” in early April 2023, according to court documents.

On Apr. 6, 2023, Ting invited the victim out for alcoholic drinks, asking her to choose between a club, a bar, or his house.

The victim expressed indecision about the location, stating that she did not know where to choose.

She raised a concern that if she were to consume alcoholic drinks in public, the police could catch her.

She clarified that this was because she was an  “underage drinker” and told Ting that it was a “hint” to him about her age.

Ting acknowledged and stated that it was a “good hint”.

He then suggested that they go to his house instead, assuring her that “confirm no one will catch” her.

The victim accepted and later met up with Ting at his house at 11:52pm.

Dared her to change clothes and sit on him

The pair consumed soju in Ting's living room while playing drinking games, including “truth or dare”.

During the game, the victim told Ting that she was 13 and turning 14.

As the game progressed, Ting “dared” the victim to change into his t-shirt and sit on his lap.

The victim complied and changed into his t-shirt, but she declined to sit on his lap.

However, Ting persuaded the victim and she eventually relented.

While the victim was seated on his lap, he further “dared” the victim to kiss him.

The victim complied, and it eventually escalated to sexual intercourse.

This was a first for the victim, who had never had sexual intercourse before.

Ting did not use a condom, court documents stated.

Ting and the victim remained in contact on Telegram after the sexual acts, but she eventually ceased contact as she felt “stupid” for accepting his invitation and blamed herself for what happened.

Court documents stated that she did not want to engage in sexual acts, but did not stop him as she did not know what she was thinking at that time.

The victim kept her sexual encounter with Ting to herself as she had no one to talk to, but subsequently posted an Instagram  story, hoping that someone would see it and talk to her

The victim’s school counsellor saw the story on Jul. 31, 2023 and notified her parents.

A police report was lodged by her mother on Aug. 9, and Ting was arrested the next day.
