Trump says deadly strike on Iranian girls’ school committed by Iran
Iran state media reported over 170 casualties from the blast.
U.S president Donald Trump said he believes a recent deadly strike on a girls’ primary school in southern Iran was "done by Iran".
"In my opinion, based on what I’ve seen, that was done by Iran. They’re very inaccurate with their munitions," Trump said aboard Air Force One on Mar. 7, after attending the transfer of six U.S. soldiers killed in an Iranian strike in Kuwait.
When asked if his assessment was accurate, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Pentagon is "investigating”, but added that "the only side that targets civilians is Iran".
Iranian officials have blamed the U.S. and Israel for the Feb. 28 strike in Minab, Hormozgan province, which reportedly killed dozens, including schoolgirls aged seven to 12.
Israel has denied any involvement, and U.S investigators are still examining the incident, CBS News reported.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
“There are no conclusions at this time, and it is both irresponsible and false to claim otherwise,” she added, emphasising that, unlike Iran, the U.S. does not target civilians.
Footage from Minab showed black smoke rising from a building identified as Shajareh Tayyebeh elementary school, near two Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps sites.
