S'pore working with UAE officials to facilitate return home for S'porean residents: PM Wong
Wong spoke to the president of the UAE about the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
Officials from Singapore and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been working closely together to ensure Singaporean residents in the UAE remain safe, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said in a Facebook post on Mar. 6.
They are also working to facilitate arrangements for those who wish to return home.
Wong shared that he had spoken with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan earlier that day about the escalating situation in the Middle East.
As a federation, the UAE consists of seven emirates in the Middle East: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah, and Fujairah.
In his post, Wong thanked the UAE president and authorities for their support and assistance to Singaporeans residing in the UAE.
"A protracted conflict in the Middle East will have serious consequences for the world. We hope that all parties will find ways to de-escalate and restore stability to the region," he said.
He added that Singapore, which has a close friendship with the UAE, stands in solidarity with the federation and its people during this challenging time.
With flights remaining disrupted as a result of the war, Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) will be mounting two repatriation flights from Muscat, Oman, on Mar. 7 and 8.
Two groups of Singaporean residents in the UAE have been escorted to Oman to join these flights.
