Man, 63, arrested for suspected theft of S$1,400 arowana from Clementi shop, fish found dead
He was arrested within 13 hours of the report.
The police have arrested a 63-year-old Singaporean man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking.
On Mar. 17, at about 2:30am, the police were alerted to a case of housebreaking at a retail outlet along Clementi Avenue 2.
Preliminary investigations revealed that someone had allegedly damaged the rear gate of the shop and gained unlawful entry into the premises.
An arowana fish, valued at about S$1,400, was reported missing.
The identity of the man was established after ground enquiries and with the aid of police cameras.
He was arrested within 13 hours of the report.
The fish was subsequently recovered, but was found to be dead.
The man will be charged in court on Mar. 18 for the offence of housebreaking in order to commit theft.
If convicted, he may be jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
Police advice
The police said all property owners are advised to:
• Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and padlocks when leaving premises unattended, even for a short while;
• Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in the premises;
• Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/ or CCTVs, to cover the access points into the premises, and ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
