Speaking to Chinese-language media, Tong’s mother, who wished to be known only as Kim, said her son had earlier told the family he was going out to meet the suspects at a restaurant for a discussion, as reported by NST.
She said he later replied to a message from the family, telling them that everything was fine: "While meeting them, my son replied to my message saying 'everything is okay, nothing is happening'."
A short while later, the family received news that he had been seriously injured.
She said: "However, it turned out to be a trap. Even after they had shaken hands and agreed to settle the matter, three armed men chased and attacked him."
According to her, her son had previously mentioned that those involved in the disagreement were from the same village and that he did not want matters to worsen.
Because of that, she said he went with only one friend.
She added that the family wanted those responsible brought to justice: "Our family will not stay silent and will demand justice for him."
