Taiwanese actress recounts how she found out her ex-husband cheated on her with her mum

Taiwanese actress Jiang Ping (蔣萍) recently went on a news programme to discuss her trauma.

Even though this was not the first time the model-turned-actress brought up her failed marriage and the bizarre circumstances that led to her separation from the man she married, her willingness to speak about it has again attracted media coverage in Taiwan and beyond.

Ex-husband slept with her mother

Jiang appeared on the 新聞挖挖哇 (News Digging) talk show to speak about how she has been coping with her traumatic discovery: Her ex-husband had cheated on her with her mother.

As a result of the affair, both mother and daughter have been estranged for two decades.

Jiang and her ex-husband have a son together.

She described herself as someone in her 50s during the programme, while news reports indicate that she is at least 48 years old.

Married someone 12 years her senior

Jiang said she had insisted on marrying a screenwriter more than 12 years her senior when she was just 21 then.

However, their honeymoon period ended after five years.

Her family had been against the relationship, especially her dad who felt her ex-husband wasn't a good person, it was previously reported.

Seven years into the marriage, Jiang's husband started verbally abusing her and he also said he had “lost interest" in her sexually.

Jiang repeatedly questioned her ex-husband at the time if he had been unfaithful.

He responded to the questioning with a bombshell revelation by saying: "I can take care of you two, mother and daughter, at one go."

Jiang was shocked to discover that the third party was actually her mother.

Her mother apparently even had the affair in the room while Jiang was at home feeding her son.

Confronted mother

Upon finding out what had happened, Jiang rushed to her parents' home to seek confirmation.

When she asked her mother if it was true, her mother closed the door on her.

To protect her father, Jiang chose to conceal the truth initially.

He eventually found out and was greatly hurt by it.

But from then on, mother and daughter became like strangers.

The last time Jiang met her mother was at her grandmother's funeral.

Jiang did not speak to her mother, who only draped the attire worn by mourners over Jiang's shoulders.

Husband not remorseful

Jiang said her ex-husband showed no remorse for his actions.

He not only claimed that his mother-in-law had taken the initiative to seduce him, he still sought out Jiang for sexual relations.

Jiang said she was heartbroken, but still fulfilled her marital obligations at the time.

She thought she did not have to divorce her husband then as she could get over it.

Jiang eventually got divorced for her mental health and extricated herself from the absurd situation.

Her ex-husband's physical condition has since deteriorated over the years, given that he is much older than her.

As his physical faculties have declined, he now relies on his son to take care of him.

Jiang said she would step in to help if it meant lifting the caregiving burden from her son's shoulders.
