Female pedestrian, 66, dies after car accident along Bencoolen Street, driver arrested

A 66-year-old female pedestrian died after an accident involving a car along Bencoolen Street towards Bras Basah Road on Mar. 17, 2026.
The accident also saw a 55-year-old car driver getting arrested.

The area was cordoned off, and a car could be seen stationary nearby.
Careless driving causing death
Responding to Mothership's queries, the police confirmed being alerted at about 5:15pm on Mar. 17, 2026 to an accident involving a car and a pedestrian along Bencoolen Street towards Bras Basah Road.
In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed being alerted at about 5:10pm on Mar. 17 to a road traffic accident near the junction of Middle Road and Bencoolen Street.
SCDF conveyed the 66-year-old female pedestrian, unconscious, to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where she subsequently passed away.
Another person was assessed for minor injuries and the person declined to be sent to the hospital.
A 55-year-old male car driver was arrested for careless driving causing death and police investigations are ongoing.
