S'pore man, 47, allegedly yelled 'let's die together' during fight with wife & placed daughter, 5, on windowsill
The couple met in 2013 and married on Oct. 5, 2014.
After being hit and told to "kill yourself", a 47-year-old Singaporean man shoved his wife, 42, into the closet by her neck.
He then said, "Let's die together" before picking his daughter up.
He then allegedly dangled their five-year-old daughter out the window and exposed her upper body over the edge of the windowsill.
The man was charged in court but pleaded not guilty.
The fight
According to Shin Min Daily News, on Jan. 5, 2025, at about 1pm, the accused got into an argument with his wife.
During the course of the fight, he grabbed her by the neck and shoved her into the closet.
He then yelled, "If I'm going to die, let's die together."
Afterwards, he allegedly carried his five-year-old daughter to the kitchen and placed her on the windowsill before exposing her upper body over the edge.
His wife then attempted to snatch their daughter away from him.
The five-year-old fell inside the house and sustained injuries.
The girl was later treated at KK Women's and Children's Hospital.
The wife then called the police and told them that her husband wanted to kill her.
The accused was arrested the next day.
Wife hits accused, told him to 'kill yourself'
The court heard on Mar. 4, 2026, that their fight escalated after the wife slapped the accused while he was sitting on the bed.
The defence posited that she had hit the accused at least three times.
While the wife admitted to getting physical with the accused, she argued that it was because the accused had been on his phone and ignored her.
The wife also complained that the accused had failed to bring food home for her and their daughter after having a meal himself.
She also admitted telling the accused to "kill yourself", which triggered the accused's threat, Shin Min wrote.
Could not confirm if daughter was indeed over window's edge
When asked about what happened in the kitchen, the wife said the man stood between her and her daughter, and she "only saw her body getting stuck, and the upper left side of her body appearing upright against the window frame. But her face was facing outward."
When asked if she could confirm that her daughter's upper body was indeed exposed over the windowsill, the wife said, "I can't confirm because her father stood between us and my view was blocked."
The accused admitted to placing his daughter on the windowsill, but denied exposing her upper body over the edge.
No-contact order
The couple met in 2013 and married on Oct. 5, 2014.
The accused has since moved out following the incident and has been issued a no-contact order against the mother and daughter, the wife said.
She also shared that she and the accused now have a "frosty" relationship.
When asked if she had a good relationship with her daughter and if she loved her, the wife answered affirmatively.
Wife often told him to 'kill yourself': Accused
The hearing resumed on Mar. 5, with the accused taking the stand.
While their marriage had been harmonious, things apparently got stressful when his wife re-entered the workforce as their daughter turned four and he switched jobs.
He emphasised that he had a "very good" relationship with his daughter.
He also told the court that his wife often told him to "kill yourself" whenever they argued, and he had also responded that they should "die together" in the past.
The comment he made during the January 2025 fight was directed at his wife, not their daughter, the man claimed.
The accused further said that he grabbed their daughter as she was standing at the doorway when he exited the room and wanted to avoid knocking her over.
He said he wanted to carry her into the kitchen to hide in the bathroom.
However, the wife allegedly caught up, and they ended up in a tussle by the kitchen window.
He said that he never exposed his daughter's body over the windowsill and was holding onto her throughout.
