9 people on Disney Cruise report gastroenteritis symptoms, S'pore Food Agency investigating
The ship can take up to 6,700 guests and is supported by a crew of about 2,500.
Nine people on board the Disney Cruise reported developing gastroenteritis symptoms while sailing from Mar. 16 to 19, 2026.
In response to queries from Mothership, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said on Mar. 29 that it is investigating the suspected cases involving eight passengers and one staff member.
SFA noted that the nine people were the only reported cases with symptoms as of Mar. 27.
"The number of affected individuals is about 0.1 per cent of total passengers and staff members on board the cruise ship."
SFA added that the nine people had received medical attention between Mar. 19 and 20, 2026.
"None were hospitalised, and all affected individuals have since recovered."
Gastroenteritis
Gastroenteritis, or more commonly known as food poisoning, is a condition characterised by the inflammation of the stomach and intestines.
The two most common forms of gastroenteritis are bacterial and viral.
Bacterial gastroenteritis outbreaks are caused by bacteria such as Salmonella, while viral gastroenteritis outbreaks are caused by viruses such as Norovirus.
Both can be transmitted in similar ways, including poor food handling and preparation practices, ingestion of contaminated food or water, poor environmental and personal hygiene, close contact with infected people or contact with contaminated objects.
Symptoms include diarrhoea or vomiting, according to SingHealth.
