Editor’s note: An earlier version of this report stated that Cotton On Asia Pte Ltd had entered voluntary liquidation. A Cotton On spokesperson clarified that the entity does not operate any stores or employ any staff. The spokesperson has also confirmed that Cotton On has no plans to exit the Asia region. This article has been updated for clarity.

Cotton On Asia is set to wind up operations and close.

The announcement was made in a Government Gazette notice published Mar. 30.

 19 years in Singapore

The Australia-based Cotton On Group opened in its first Singapore store at Wisma Atria in 2007.

This marked its entrance into the Asian market, and was followed by stores in Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia.

It also operates shoe brand Rubi and stationery brand Typo.

Currently, Cotton On has over 30 stores in Singapore.

No plans to close

In response to Mothership's queries, Cotton On clarified that Cotton On Asia, the shuttered entity, is an inactive holding company.

The group has no plans to exit the Asia market, it said.

The closure "has no impact on customer, team, stores, suppliers or operations within the Asia region", a spokesperson said.

Stores remained open when Mothership visited on the evening of Mar. 30.
