Yvonne Lim looked at over 100 homes in 5 years before settling on 4-bedroom Bukit Timah condo
She began her search in 2014.
In a recent episode of Mediacorp’s #JustSwipeLah, actress Yvonne Lim gave a house tour of her four-bedroom Bukit Timah condominium, which she bought with her husband, Taiwanese businessman Alex Tien, in 2019.
Lim said she viewed more than 100 units before finally finding the one.
The 49-year-old actress and her husband moved into the condo in 2024 with their children, AJ, 12, and Alexa, 9.
The hunt began as early as 2014, when she was pregnant with AJ.
The search never quite stopped — even after relocating to Taipei following their wedding, she also told 8days.sg.
A never-ending search
Lim said she tried to fit in house viewings whenever she flew back to Singapore for visits or filming.
Even from Taipei, she would scroll through listings and request floor plans from agents, while Tien scrutinised them for feng shui.
She had a clear set of requirements, including a central location, at least three bedrooms, and proximity to reputable schools.
Rejected the apartment before
On how she finally chose the unit, Lim shared a funny anecdote: she had actually rejected it once before.
She recalled stepping into the apartment again and finding both the agent and the space familiar.
After thinking about it for a while, she realised it was her second time viewing the same place.
She said the unit had been cluttered when she first saw it, and it didn’t feel right at the time.
But the second time around, it was vacant and felt comfortable the moment she stepped in.
Putting her style into it
Lim shared that she took the lead on the renovation and design this time, unlike their Taipei home, which Tien had overseen while she was pregnant.
Although she had given her input then, the final design left her dumbfounded, she recalled.
“He basically turned it into his own bachelor pad,” she laughed.
Even so, the couple still worked together to turn the apartment into their dream home.
For instance, Lim had wanted Victorian detailing for their TV wall, but Tien pointed out their limited storage space.
They eventually chose practicality.
“I usually just help her see whether her design can fit with everyday life,” Tien said.
Final outcome
After six months of renovation, the family moved into their new home in 2024.
The result was a modern, luxury-themed interior with thoughtful details tailored to the family’s needs and lifestyle.
For example, the children’s room is designed with ample storage, their favourite colours, and dedicated spaces for hobbies and studying.
Meanwhile, Lim’s master bedroom features a walk-in wardrobe and a display cabinet showcasing mementoes such as her Star Awards trophies.
In the kitchen, where Lim spends much of her time cooking and baking for her loved ones, there are various appliances, including a vacuum sealer and two ovens.
The living room, meanwhile, features a large wall cabinet filled with books and mementoes, as well as a smart piano that Tien plays when guests are over.
