Queenstown Sport Centre has been hit by renovation delays, with its initial expected completion date pushed back several months to the first half of 2026.

It was initially scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.

The sports centre, which includes a race track, football field, and swimming complex alongside other amenities, closed on May 14, 2023, for upgrading works.

It is Singapore's first sports complex and opened in 1970.

Under construction

In July 2025, Member of Parliament (MP) for Queenstown Eric Chua shared a video of the centre's renovation progress.

Parts of the pool area, as well as the football field and running track, appeared to be under construction.

In response to questions in the video's comments section, Chua confirmed that the renovation works were on track to be completed "by the end of the year".

Renovation delays

But when the new year passed, the sports centre had not reopened.

When residents asked for updates on the progress, Chua revealed that there had been "further delays" to the renovation project.

When Mothership went down to the complex on Feb. 19, renovation works were still in progress.

The areas surrounding the pool and track appeared to have been refurbished, although the pool area itself appeared relatively untouched.

In addition, a sign on the scaffolding had been updated to reflect the new estimated date of completion: H1 2026.

New completion date

In response to Mothership's queries, SportSG confirmed that the estimated completion date had been pushed back to H1 2026.

This was in view of challenges encountered during construction, including adverse weather, technical complexities with existing infrastructure, and material supply constraints.

"To expedite progress, the contractor has deployed additional manpower and implemented enhanced quality control measures for faster issue resolution," the spokesperson said.

They also provided a hint as to the amenities that will be available at the rejuvenated stadium.

These include a new gym annex with activity rooms, an expanded rugby field, a rejuvenated pool pavilion, and improved accessibility features.
