New McDonald's outlet at Dunearn Village draws comparison to former iconic King Albert Park branch
Cue the nostalgia.
Fans of the former iconic McDonald's branch at King Albert Park can now relive their memories at a newly-opened branch just about five minutes away at Dunearn Village.
The new outlet's grand opening was announced on McDonald's Singapore's Instagram page on Feb. 2, in a video featuring the auspicious Chinese practice of rolling pineapples into the store.
Located next to King Albert Park (KAP) MRT station and within the newly-refurbished Dunearn Village, formerly known as Link@896, it joins an assemble of other fast-food chain outlets like Burger King and Guzman Y Gomez.
Nostalgia
The outlet's close proximity to where the former well-loved outlet at King Albert Park was located drew significant attention online, with some dubbing it the return of KAP McDonald's to its "roots".
Some, however, lamented that it "will never be the same", arguing that the charm and nostalgia the former store once held cannot be recreated.
The two-storey branch closed its doors in 2014 after 23 years of operation, during which it was a popular hangout spot among residents and students in the area.
It housed a number of fondly-remembered features, including the original McDonald's Hamburglar statue, a Ronald McDonald statue, an overhead toy train track and an indoor children's playground.
