A 32-year-old security guard allegedly stabbed four members of his family to death before turning the blade on himself in Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia.

The murder-suicide took place at around 7am on Feb. 17, 2026, in the family home in Lorong Cherating Damai, reported Bernama.

According to reports from the Malay Mail, initial investigations showed that the man had first attacked his wife, Nurul Asshiykin Kamaruzaman, 33, then his mother, Tuan Kamaria Tuan Puteh, 55.

Before allegedly stabbing his two young daughters, Nur Saffiyah Humairah and Nur Sumayyah Humairah, aged four and two, and himself with a sharp weapon.

The suspect's younger brother, 15, who witnessed the incident, heard what sounds like an argument while in his bedroom, said Kuantan police chief, Ashari Abu Samah.

The witness exited his room and went to the kitchen to find "his mother covered in blood and screaming for him to go seek help from his uncle", reported Malay Mail.

Grisly scene

The witness's uncle was in the same residential area, and once they arrived at the scene, Ashari said "they found all the victims and the suspect covered in blood and unconscious".

Eight family members lived in the house, including the victims and the suspect's three younger brothers, but at the time of the incident, only six family members were present, reported Malay Mail.

Background checks on the suspect yielded no record of mental treatment or prior crimes, said Ashari.

According to Bernama, Pahang police chief Yahaya Othman said the bodies of the man, his wife, and two daughters were found in a bedroom, while the children's grandmother was found in the kitchen.

Suspect was respectful & friendly neighbour

New Straits Times interviewed neighbours who said that the family had never displayed any unusual behaviour.

A neighbour, Saripah Jaya, 60, whose house shared a wall with the suspect's, said the suspect was the second of five siblings and was "friendly with the neighbours".

"I saw one of the victims' family members sitting outside the house when I went to feed the chickens at 7:30am. He appeared shocked and only pointed towards the house."

Police revealed that the suspect returned to his family home a month before the incident after resigning from his job in Selangor, and only started working in Kuantan a week ago, Bernama reported.

According to neighbours, the suspect had previously worked as a lorry driver in Selangor, before bringing his wife and daughters home to take up a security guard role in Kuantan.

Financial difficulties may have been the motive, reported The Star.

Investigations are still ongoing.
