Man, in his 20s, allegedly masturbated at M'sia university during secondary school students seminar
The man, who was arrested, was not a university student.
A man was arrested after allegedly masturbating during a public seminar at a private university in Malaysia.
The Star and New Straits Times reported that on Feb. 7, the man, who in his mid-20s, had attended the seminar for secondary school students at a university in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.
Midway through the seminar, the man pulled down his pants and started touching himself.
Touched himself
The act was caught on video by a fellow student, who shared the incident on Threads.
The student said not all students who attended were required to wear their uniforms, and there were no identity checks before entering the auditorium.
Around 30 to 40 minutes into the seminar, a girl seated next to the man started crying.
The man was then told to leave.
"This event left a lot of form 4 and 5 female students traumatised as this has happened in front of them," the student said.
The teenagers were aged 16 to 17 years old.
Arrest
A police report was lodged on the same day, and the man was arrested on Feb. 9, reported The Star.
“The motive for the incident is still under investigation," police said.
He will be remanded until Feb. 11.
Investigations thus far revealed that the man is not a university student.
Although several media reported that the man was masturbating, Free Malaysia Today reported that the university's chief operating officer, Gurpardeep Singh, has dismissed the allegation, stating that the man had simply removed his pants.
Singh also said that according to police, the man is suspected to be of unsound mind, FMT reported.
The seminar was not organised by the university, but by several schools, and an internal probe is being conducted, Singh added.
