Eight firefighters were involved in a 20-minute operation to transport the man out of his bathroom.
Malaysian firefighters rescued a 40-year-old male teacher who weighed 350kg, after he was found severely incapacitated and unable to move in his bathroom.
On Jan. 31, 2026, an emergency call was received at 2:56am and a team of firefighters from Masjid Tanah Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to his house in Taman Sri Gemilan, Kuala Sungai Baru, reported New Straits Times.
Melaka Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid said the man had "significant physical limitations due to underlying medical conditions".
"The patient required specialised help from firefighters to safely transfer him from a confined space."
Eight firefighters involved in operation
Eight firefighters were involved in the 20-minute operation to move the man out of his bathroom.
According to Sinar Harian, Hafidzatullah said that the operation took longer due to the narrow bathroom space.
"The victim did not fall; he was in a weak state from not eating and lacked the energy to move. The firefighters took 20 minutes to get him out of the bathroom."
The firefighters also took time to reassure the man, who was in pain due to a bacterial leg infection and asthma.
"Initial information was obtained from the victim's wife who said that he had been unwell and had a fever a week ago, resting at home on medical leave." (transliteration)
He was then transported to Alor Gajah Hospital in a fire truck instead of a traditional ambulance.
Hafidzatullah said that the operation ended at 4:18am and everyone involved was safe.
