In 2025, around 22,000 Malaysia-registered motorcycles were issued with Notices of Traffic Offence, said Minister for Home Affairs, K Shanmugam.

This was in response to a parliamentary question raised by Member of Parliament (MP) Liang Eng Hwa, seeking the annual number of Malaysia-registered motorcycles that received traffic offence notices.

Such notices often include traffic violations such as speeding or running a red light, as well as dangerous/reckless driving.

In a separate written response to a parliamentary question by MP Cassandra Lee, Shanmugam reported that the number of foreign-registered vehicles that incurred vehicular-related fines while driving in Singapore was 86,492 in 2024 and 126,820 in 2025.

He added that the numbers include both fines issued by the traffic police and other driving, parking, and vehicle emissions-related offences.

Breakdown

In 2024, 26 per cent of vehicular-related fines involving foreign-registered vehicles were for cars.

41 per cent were for motorcycles, and 33 per cent were for other vehicles, such as buses, lorries, and heavy vehicles.

In 2025, vehicular-related fines for foreign-registered vehicles were 20 per cent for cars, 38 per cent for motorcycles, and 42 per cent for other vehicles such as buses, lorries, and heavy vehicles.

Shanmugam added that agencies regularly conduct multi-agency operations against foreign motorists with outstanding vehicle-related fines at checkpoints.

Such motorists will be stopped and asked to settle their fines before being allowed entry into Singapore.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority may also deny entry to Singapore to foreign vehicles with outstanding fines.
