A total of 14 men were arrested for offences involving duty-unpaid cigarettes after an enforcement sweep at a foreign worker dormitory in Jurong East.

Singapore Customs said in a Facebook post that it conducted a targeted enforcement operation on Jan. 28, 2026, at an industrial building and a foreign worker dormitory along Toh Guan Road East.

The operation was conducted to clamp down on the sale and demand of duty-unpaid cigarettes.

More than 170 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes were seized as a result.

Following investigations, 12 offenders were given fines ranging from S$500 to S$800, Singapore Customs said.

The remaining two offenders were charged in the State Courts on Jan. 30, 2026.

Buying, selling, storing or consuming duty-unpaid cigarettes is illegal and carries severe penalties in Singapore.

For every packet of duty-unpaid cigarettes, an offender can be fined S$500.
