Woman argues with SMRT bus captain after allegedly being asked if she wanted to board bus
Oh no.
A woman in Singapore got into a heated argument with a bus captain aboard bus service 911 after he asked her if she wanted to board the bus.
In response to Mothership’s queries, SMRT Buses Deputy Managing Director Vincent Gay confirmed that the incident occurred on Dec. 28 at around 9:30pm while the bus was travelling towards the Woodlands Integrated Transport Hub (WITH).
Shouted and pointed finger at bus captain
A video of the incident, shared on TikTok, captured the woman in a tense exchange with the bus captain.
He repeatedly told her to "bring it out", although it was unclear what he was referring to.
She responded by shouting at him, though her words were indistinct in the video.
The woman also kept pointing her finger at him while other passengers were seen trying to pacify her.
A sudden high-pitched shriek was also heard.
Had expressed “dissatisfaction”
According to Gay, the female passenger had “unexpectedly expressed dissatisfaction” after the bus captain asked if she and her companions intended to board, as they had been waiting at the stop for some time.
The woman stayed at the front of the bus after boarding, all while filming the bus captain and reportedly blocking other passengers.
She also continued to verbally confront him throughout the journey after being asked to move further in.
When the bus reached WITH, the woman reportedly became “more agitated” and argued with others.
Gay added: “For the safety of other passengers, our bus captain sought assistance from her companions to escort her off the bus. We remind our bus captains to engage passengers respectfully and professionally, and we strongly encourage mutual respect between bus captains and passengers.”
According to the Conditions of Carriage (CoC), which lays out guidelines on passenger behaviour onboard public buses, passengers are expected to "behave in a safe, civilised and gracious manner without causing nuisance or annoyance to other passengers."
