S'pore teachers can work from home on days with no classes among MOE's flexible work arrangements
Supporting teachers' well-being.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) has a range of measures to manage teachers' workload and support their well-being.
This includes implementing various flexible work arrangements (FWA) to support teachers who need to balance their work and personal needs.
Work-from-home
For example, teachers may work from home on days without classes or duties that require their presence in school, and they may have adjusted reporting times when they have no lessons or duties.
MOE added that school leaders are encouraged to support teachers' requests for FWA while maintaining the duty of care towards students.
All schools also provide protected vacation time during school holidays to ensure that teachers can rest.
The protected vacation time ranges from six to seven weeks across the four school holiday blocks.
Teachers can also take vacation leave beyond the protected time if they don't have any work, MOE said.
Technology and AI
MOE has also used technology and AI innovation to streamline administrative processes, allowing teachers to focus more on their students.
For instance, teachers can use the AI-powered app, Appraiser Testimonial Generator, to help write student testimonials. They can also use HeyTalia, an AI assistant, to draft messages to parents.
AI tools have also been introduced to aid in lesson planning and in-class group discussions.
Staff well-being
To promote staff well-being, schools also have staff well-being committees where they can coordinate workshops, talks and webinars on topics such as mental health and work-life balance.
There are also wellness ambassadors who are trained to provide basic mental and emotional support to help colleagues navigate their concerns.
MOE acknowledged that the "complexity of a teacher's work" has increased over the years. Thus, it will continue with its efforts to support teachers' well-being.
