A heap of motorcycles pile up on Causeway towards S'pore following chain collision

A chain motorcycle collision occurred along the Causeway towards Woodlands Checkpoint, which resulted in a pile up of the two-wheelers.

Five Malaysian motorcyclists, aged 29 to 50, were injured as a result, according to Malaysian authorities.

They sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Videos circulating online showed the aftermath of the accident which was believed to have occurred at about 9:50am on Jan. 5.

More than 10 motorcycles could be seen on the dedicated lane for motorcycles.

Some were even stacked on top of one another.

The sounds of horns from nearby vehicles could also be heard in the clips.

Another clip showed multiple riders affected by the crash.

Some were standing on the ledge dividing the motorcycle lane from the rest of the lanes, while others sat by the road.

Initial investigations found that the five injured riders were on their way to work in Singapore when the accident occurred, said a Johor Bahru Selatan police chief.

One of the riders was believed to have stopped and made a U-turn to retrieve a personal item that had fallen onto the road, while the other four were unable to avoid him and collided with the motorcycle.

Investigations are ongoing.
