Looking for a unique twist on your Chinese New Year (CNY) decorations or gifts in 2026?

Seniors at Carer, an elder care centre in Singapore, are putting their creative skills on display with handmade CNY collectibles.

Festive fruits and flowers

Each item, ranging from festive fruits to flowers, showcases the dedication and craftsmanship of the centre's residents.

Crafted with colourful pipe cleaners, the charming figurines are priced between S$38 and S$188.

Those looking to get their hands on the collectibles can choose from a pair of handmade pipe cleaner oranges (comes with a CNY gift bag), a carton of oranges, a prosperity vase, or a pineapple.

In another post on Instagram, the centre captured the seniors working together to assemble and pack the pipe cleaner collectibles.

Part of the steps to form the oranges include residents crafting the oranges by shaping pipe cleaners, and gluing beads to create eyes and a smiling face.

The "carton" of oranges is then wrapped with foam net to resemble real fruits, before being packed into boxes.

Apart from the festive collection, Carer also sells other goods such as flowers, flower pots, and blooming floral lamps made out of pipe cleaners as well as cornflake cookies.

The collectibles are available for purchase online via the centre's gift store website.

Customers may opt for pickup at two locations, namely 326C Sumang Walk in Punggol and Kiew Sian King in Tampines.

Free delivery is also available for purchases above S$100.

Won over netizens (and buyers)

The limited-edition handmade collectibles quickly captured attention following their launch.

Netizens praised the items and residents' "cuteness" and creativity, while some have already placed their orders.

According to an earlier post, the centre started its pipe cleaner craft activities in 2023.

"It was just one of the many activities we did to engage our seniors to improve their creativity and dexterity," the centre wrote.

To date, the seniors have crafted a range of pipe cleaner collectibles including Jellycat-inspired products, limited edition Christmas collectibles and more.
