A cross-border worker was robbed at knifepoint at a bus stop in Johor Bahru after finishing work in Singapore.

According to China Press, the incident took place at around 7:30am on Jan. 8 at a bus stop along Tebrau Road, near the Lotus’s hypermarket.

In addition to losing his belongings and important documents, RM3,000 (S$950.40) was transferred out of his bank account within just 30 minutes.

The victim, who goes by Chen, is a warehouse administrator.

Due to shift work, the 28-year-old commutes by public bus between Singapore and Johor Bahru and often alights at the bus stop late at night.

Held at knifepoint by three perpetrators

Chen’s wife later shared details of the incident online, describing the experience as harrowing.

She said that after her husband got off the bus that morning, he was stopped by three well-built men.

One of them brandished a knife and forced him aside, quickly robbing Chen of his wallet, mobile phone and other belongings.

She added that his wallet contained important documents, including his driving licence, work permit, and the identity cards of their two children.

After the robbers fled, Chen did not dare to chase after them out of concern for his own safety and could only return home on his own.

The suspects then immediately used Chen’s ATM card to transfer funds.

Within half an hour, more than RM3,000 in his bank account was transferred to an overseas bank account.

Police investigations are ongoing.
