Woman, 24, & man, 33, locked themselves in Farrer Park condo room over alleged dispute, arrested for drug-related offences
They were rescued after four hours.
A couple allegedly got into an argument in a condominium unit in Farrer Park and locked themselves inside a room for over four hours.
The police confirmed with Mothership that they received a call for assistance at 3 Oxford Road on Jan. 9 at about 8:10am.
This was the address of Kentish Lodge condominium.
When police officers arrived, it was established that a 24-year-old woman allegedly had an argument with her 33-year-old male friend, and she was observed to be in distress, police said.
The duo had also locked themselves in a room within a residential unit.
In consideration of their safety, officers from the Special Operations Command, Crisis Negotiation Unit and Singapore Civil Defence Force responded to the incident, police said.
At about 12:35pm, police officers managed to gain entry into the room.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force also confirmed that they received a call for assistance at the same location and deployed a safety life air pack.
Rescuers from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) were on standby as a precautionary measure, they said.
Arrested for drug-related offences
The woman was conveyed conscious to the hospital, and apprehended under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008, police said.
She was also arrested for a suspected drug-related offence.
Meanwhile, the man was arrested for obstructing a police officer from his duty, and for suspected drug-related offences.
E-vaporisers and suspected drug paraphernalia were found at the scene, the police said.
The e-vaporiser related offence has been referred to the Health Sciences Authority, and the suspected drug-related offences will be referred to the Centra Narcotics Bureau.
Investigations are ingoing.
The rescue
Shin Min Daily News reporters saw six police cars, several fire engines, and an ambulance at the scene when they arrived.
Police had cordoned off the area outside the apartment building, and an air pack had been laid out at the foot of the building.
Rescue personnel were present both below the building and on the roof.
They seen casting nets over the window of the seventh floor unit where the couple was located.
Shin Min also reported that two rescuers dangled from ropes outside the windows to communicate with the people inside.
