S'pore man gets honked at while crossing road, points middle finger & pretends car hit him
The incident occurred at 12:45pm on Jan. 3.
A man in Singapore pretended to be injured after being honked at by an oncoming vehicle while crossing the road on Jan. 3.
A dashcam video shared on the SGRV Facebook page on Jan. 4 captured the man confronting the driver before sitting on the road near 34 Cassia Crescent for an extended period.
According to the footage timestamp, the incident occurred at 12:45pm.
Pointed middle finger, pretended to have injured knee
In the dashcam video spanning one minute and 19 seconds, the car could be seen turning into the road.
The man, clad in dark attire, was crossing with a woman on his left side.
The couple appeared not to have checked their surroundings before crossing, and were only alerted to the oncoming car when it honked at them.
Although the vehicle slowed down as it approached them, the man stopped in his tracks, appearing agitated before pointing his middle finger at the driver.
He then went near the front windscreen to confront the driver.
The man later grimaced, held on to his sides, and touched his right knee.
He then knelt on the ground and continued to speak while looking at the driver.
He eventually sat down on the ground and remained in the position for the rest of the video.
Man reportedly "changed his story" several times
In the post, the driver involved said he was driving with his wife to pick up their children when two individuals allegedly jaywalked into the road.
"I slowed down and honked once as a warning, purely to alert them," he wrote.
According to him, the man had confronted him and claimed that the driver had struck him while pretending to fall to the ground.
He later noticed that the driver had a dashcam, and reportedly "changed his story" multiple times when recounting the incident.
The man had first said that the driver had hit him with his car, before saying that he had "twisted" his knee as he was startled by the honk, and later told the police that he had "twisted" his leg while walking back to confront the driver.
"All of these contradictions are clearly visible on video, including his body movements and lack of impact with the vehicle. During the confrontation, he shouted vulgarities," the driver wrote.
Caused distress and traffic to be blocked
According to the post, police officers reviewed the situation and determined that no accident had taken place.
Ambulance personnel also reportedly found no injuries and left within minutes.
Mothership understands that no case will be pursued.
The driver added that the incident reportedly caused traffic disruption in the area for over an hour.
He said his two children, aged eight and nine, were in the car at the time and were distressed by the confrontation.
He added that he has since filed a matter with the Magistrate's Court seeking compensation for time lost and emotional distress, and said that any compensation awarded would be donated to charity.
