A Singaporean man, Shawn Loo Zhi Jian, 40, who is a friend of the late former lawyer M Ravi, has been handed a new drug charge on Jan. 2, 2026 and now faces a total of two charges.
The additional charge was for purportedly taking methamphetamine on or before Dec. 24, 2025, according to charge sheets seen by Mothership.
Loo and Ravi had allegedly consumed methamphetamine at an Upper Boon Keng flat on the night of Ravi's death.
This second charge for drug consumption carries a maximum punishment of 10 years' jail or S$20,000 fine, or both.
The late political hopeful passed away in the early hours of Dec. 24, at the age of 56.
Loo out on bail
Loo was previously charged in court on Dec. 26, 2025, under the Misuse of Drugs Act for allegedly arranging a gathering where controlled drugs were consumed.
The first charge carries a maximum punishment of 20 years' imprisonment and 10 strokes of the cane.
Loo is out on S$20,000 bail, reported CNA.
Lawyer Ashvin Hariharan is representing Loo, whose case has been adjourned to Jan. 28, according to The Straits Times.
Loo and Ravi met through a social media app in 2023, according to a joint statement by the Central Narcotics Bureau and Singapore Police Force.
They met on Christmas Eve to consume drugs and engage in other activities.
Ravi exhibited concerning symptoms after consuming the drugs and subsequently died at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
