S'pore mum shows baby her dad working on garbage truck, wants her to be proud of him

A Singapore mother's proud moment quickly became a heartwarming celebration of family, hard work, and everyday heroes.

In a TikTok post on Dec. 11, user @humancattto, also known as Nora, shared a video of her showing her seven-month-old daughter a waste truck attendant in action.

The moment was made even more wholesome by the fact that the worker was the child's father, on duty at the time.

The video quickly went viral, amassing more than 268,000 views at the time of writing.

In the clip, the woman could be seen holding her baby up so the child, named Qaseh, could see her husband at work on a nearby garbage truck.

The man could be seen smiling at his wife and daughter as they watched the vehicle drive away from a car park in an HDB estate.

Speaking to Mothership, Nora said that the video was taken in her Woodlands neighbourhood on Dec. 11.

Earlier that day, she received a message from her husband, who said he was going to clear rubbish at the chute near their home.

Hard at work

"I wanted our daughter to see her dad at work, and for him to know that we are proud of him for working hard to provide for our family," she said.

Nora added that the moment wasn't planned and she just wanted to surprise her husband to show him that "even in the middle of work, he is still our world".

Upon seeing her father, the baby stretched out her hands, wanting to be carried by her father, Nora said.

"He didn't carry her because he felt dirty from work," she explained.

"When he saw us, the first thing he said was: 'What are you doing here?' He was shocked, a little embarrassed, and emotional at the same time. I think a part of him expected it, but not like that."

Nora's husband recently made a career switch in hopes of providing a better life for the little family.

She shared that he used to work in flower delivery but switched to a waste truck attendant to have a "more stable income and secure our family's future".

Showing immense gratitude to her husband, she said: "It hasn't been easy but he shows up every day with quiet strength, commitment, and pride. One day, our daughter will understand these sacrifices and be proud of the man her father is."

Video went viral, netizens celebrate family and man's job

The video video gained traction on TikTok, garnering warm and appreciative comments by other users.

Many expressed their gratitude for such work, with some adding that it is "important" and "one of the most respectable jobs".

Another user also said that "no wife should feel shame of any job which is legal and can feed the family".

One commenter remarked that the child will "grow up to respect" every job and workers, no matter their level.

Another user also noted that salaries in the sector are higher than many may assume.
