WhatsappA married man, 67, had a secret second wife and children for 30 years before a whistleblower blew his cover in a email tipoff to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

Ng Teong Min was already married for 15 years and a father of two, when he covertly wed his second wife in Sarawak, Malaysia.

Ng's second union produced two more children, reported CNA.

On Dec. 2, 2025, Ng was sentenced to one year and five months' jail after pleading guilty to bigamy.

Second wife knew he was married

Ng met his first wife, 67, when they were teenagers, and the couple tied the knot in 1980.

The couple have two children together.

Ng visited Sarawak from 1985 to 1995 for business, and while he was there, he met and formed another relationship.

The second woman knew Ng was married, stated CNA.

Ng found housing for her and would live with her when he went to Sarawak.

According to court documents, on Dec. 18, 1995, Ng wed for the second time at 37.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Jini Pillai stated that the second marriage was finalised through a tea ceremony, Ng did not register their marriage in Malaysia for fear that authorities would check his marital status in Singapore.

This second union produced two more children.

First wife found out during investigations

Ng's first wife only learned about the secret family this year after the investigations.

She now intends to end their marriage.

Now a grandfather, Ng wept and told the judge that he took "full responsibility for the pain, confusion and harm" he had dealt.

"I promise to uphold the law and to be a better father, grandparent and family member. I want to spend the rest of my years setting a proper example for my children and grandchildren – one built on modesty, integrity and responsibility."

According to CNA, prosecutors stated that his bigamy was "far in excess" as compared to previous cases.

Reflecting on his actions, Ng promised to be a better family man.
