A 61-year-old man was found dead in a hair salon in the Farrer Park area on Dec. 1, supposedly after falling down a staircase.

Police told Mothership that they were alerted to a case of unnatural death at Owen Road on Dec. 1 at about 7:50am.

A 61-year-old man was found motionless in the unit and was pronounced dead at scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic.

Found dead in two-storey shophouse

Following the discovery, Shin Min Daily News (Shin Min) reporters who visited the shophouse saw numerous police officers gathered there for investigations.

Over 10 members of the public were seen at the scene, some of whom were covering their faces and crying.

Others were seen clearing up debris in the store and sweeping the floor.

The shophouse had a staircase connecting the first and second floor, where the man's family reportedly stayed.

Rags were seen on the floor and on the steps of the staircase, and a strong disinfectant smell hung in the air along with a faint odour, Shin Min reported.

Suspected to have fallen down stairs

A woman who identified herself as the deceased's older sister told Shin Min that she discovered her brother's body after arriving at the store at around 7am.

She explained that her brother was staying with their mother and younger sister on the second floor at the time.

"I never expected this to happen. I think he might have accidentally fallen down the stairs," she said.

She declined to comment further on the matter.

Police told Mothership that based on preliminary investigations, they do not suspect foul play.

Police investigations are ongoing.
