Beach-themed Christmas tree in Langkawi airport mocked for looking like 'a turd'
Did not workshop this enough.
A Christmas tree installation at Langkawi International Airport (LIA) in Malaysia is being mocked for looking inappropriate and not well put together.
A photo posted in the Facebook group Malaysia Education Info (And Homeschooling too) on Dec. 16 showed a brown-coloured structure adorned with seashells, starfish and a Christmas star perched on top.
Same tree, different angles
To some, the beach-themed sand sculpture, which was intended to resemble a Christmas tree, appeared to look like faeces instead.
Chong Sim Chung, who shared the photo, said his first impression of the decoration "isn't one of a Christmas tree but of a turd".
He added: "I ask for forgiveness that or whoever designed this thought it was a good idea may want to reevaluate their design sense. And to think I just had shellfish for dinner when this came to mind."

The "tree's" artist, Malaysian sculptor Ikhwan Ibrahim, had earlier shared a photo of the structure on Facebook on Dec. 3.
He added that the display will be up for the entire month of December 2025.
"Don't miss the chance to witness Malaysia's only 'Under the Sea' Christmas installation!" His caption read.
The sculpture was seemingly captured at a better angle, with brighter lighting.
Same tree, different reactions
Chong's post attracted mixed reactions online.
Some Facebook users commented that the display is "very offensive", with one pointing out that it is "not meant to be a Christmas tree".

But it's not all flak.
Others commended the design, with one saying that it is a "very unique" and "creative" decoration.

Another user said the design could be based off "a simple thought of Christmas tree with a seaside theme", encouraging others to maintain the "harmony and peace".

One user also appeared neutral while noting that the sculpture should "at least" be painted green.

Another also called on online commenters not to "be triggered", adding that Christians may not be offended by the sculpture.
