A 23-year-old sanitation worker died in Taiwan on the morning of Dec. 16 after she was rear-ended at high speed by a Mercedes-Benz.

The accident occurred in Anping District, Tainan City, slightly past 8 am, setn.com reported, adding that this trapped the worker, Chen, between the garbage truck and the car.

Following the accident, the 48-year-old car driver, Zheng, was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

A Dec. 16 autopsy preliminarily determined that she died from multiple injuries caused by comminuted fractures of the lower body resulting from a vehicle collision.

Boyfriend was truck driver

In a setn.com YouTube video, Chen briefly walked to the back of the truck.

Within seconds, a white car crashed into her, trapping her between the car and the truck.

The garbage truck driver was Chen's boyfriend, ETtoday reported, adding that he heard the sound of the impact and immediately got out to check.

According to ETtoday, Chen's boyfriend kept banging on the car and frantically asking for help.

However, when the police and firefighters arrived, Chen showed no signs of life.

Blood alcohol level

While Chen was crushed to death, the car driver Zheng only suffered a broken leg, according to ftvnews.com.

He was rescued with the assistance of firefighters and taken to the hospital and was initially asleep after being taken to the hospital.

Police could only take his statement and investigate the detailed cause of the accident after confirming he was conscious.

A subsequent breathalyser test revealed that Zheng's blood alcohol level was 0.95, three times the legal limit.

ftvnews.com reported that police will prosecute him for endangering public safety and causing death while driving under the influence.

Identity revealed

Following the accident, someone recognised his car, ftvnews.com reported, adding that he had allegedly been convicted of assault and sentenced to 55 days of detention in the past.

Chen's family plans to file a lawsuit against Zheng.
