FIFA overturns M'sia football match results, 2-1 win against S'pore now officially a 3-0 loss
SINGAPORE WINS
Three international friendly match results played by Malaysia's male national football team have been overturned by FIFA after it ruled that ineligible players were fielded in the team.
The affected matches are now recorded as 3-0 losses against Malaysia.
One of them included a match played with Singapore on Sep. 4, which Malaysia had won with a 2-1 scoreline.
Ineligible players
According to MalayMail and other local media reports, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) issued a statement saying that the decision was made by the FIFA disciplinary committee.
FAM said that the disciplinary committee, chaired by FIFA’s deputy chairman Jorge Palacio, found that ineligible players were fielded during these matches.
This breached FIFA's disciplinary code.
Out of the three matches, one of them was a draw while the two were wins by the Malaysian team.
They are a 1-1 draw against Cape Verde on May 29, a 1-0 win against Palestine on Sep. 1 and a 2-1 win against Singapore on Sep. 4.
Apart from the results being overturned, FAM was also handed a CHF10,000 (SG$16,190) fine.
The Malaysian football association said it will be obtaining the grounds of decision from FIFA before deciding on the next course of action.
As a result of the match results being overturned, the Malaysia national football team's global ranking is expected to slip from its current 116th place.
Malaysia's national football team and football association has been accused by FIFA, the global governing body for football, of faking naturalisation papers for seven of its players.
