A Thai man committed suicide in a gold shop after failing to rob it of 200,000 baht (S$8,018).

Thaiger reported that the incident took place on Nov. 11 in Thailand's northeastern Isaan region.

The owner reported the attempted theft and suicide to the police at 5pm.

Suspect dead

When officers arrived, they found the body of suspect Sakda Yotsuwan in front of the counter.

He was found with two gunshot wounds — one to his right temple and one to his left shoulder.

A 9mm handgun was discovered near his body.

Gunfire

This was after Yotsuwan walked into the store claiming he wanted to pawn a gold necklace.

Upon inspection, the owner told him the necklace was fake and could not be pawned.

Yotsuwan then pulled out a gun, demanding 200,000 baht in cash.

The shop owner pretended to comply and told Yotsuwan he would get the cash from the storage area behind the shop.

However, the owner returned with his own gun.

This resulted in an exchange of gunfire where the owner admitted to shooting Yotsuwan once in the shoulder.

The owner then locked the shop's front door after Yotsuwan collapsed to prevent him from escaping.

Yotsuwan then shot himself in the head.

Investigation

Following the incident, police are reviewing surveillance footage from the store and surrounding areas, MGR Online reported.

They are also collecting forensic evidence.

However, the suspect's motive remains under investigation.
