A foreign domestic worker in Singapore has been sentenced to a year and two months' jail on Nov. 10 for stealing a total of S$69,600 from her 82-year-old employer.

The money came from the employer's savings for her own funeral, Shin Min Daily News reported.

The theft occurred between Dec. 6, 2023, to Apr. 14, 2025, over 86 separate occasions.

During this period, Selvi Moede, a 37-year-old Indonesian, and her employer, Soh Thiam Moy, were the only two occupants in the house.

According to charge sheets seen by Mothership, Moede withdrew money from two of Soh's bank accounts without her authorisation.

She was able to do so because Soh wrote the PINs for each card on a piece of paper, and stuck the papers on the respective cards.

When Soh was not paying attention, Moede took the cards from Soh's wallet and went to a neighbourhood automated teller machine (ATM) to withdraw money.

She was eventually arrested on Oct. 23, and faced five charges for committing theft and gaining unauthorised access to Soh's banking services.

According to Shin Min, she has yet to compensate Soh for the money stolen.
