A tourist from India who ordered a beef burger at a McDonald's outlet in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) subsequently confronted the staff loudly for serving her a non-vegetarian burger instead of a vegetarian one.

The incident has since gone viral on social media.

The incident

In a video cross-posted to Instagram and TikTok on Nov. 11, a McDonald's counter staff can be seen attending to a woman in a yellow shirt regarding her order.

"I'm from India, how can you..." said the woman.

"I know you're Indian," the counter staff responded, to which the woman questioned, "Then how can you do this?"

The woman went on to highlight that she is a regular customer of McDonald's and often orders vegetarian burgers.

When the staff reiterated that her burger is "not vegetarian", the woman said, "I know, but it's not mentioned also [that] it's beef".

The woman was subsequently seen walking away from the counter in distress.

The geo-tag of the video indicates that the incident took place at a McDonald's outlet in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

McDonald's Malaysia does not have vegetarian burger options on its menu, according to its website.

The video's caption claimed that the tourist "threw her burger box on the floor" before confronting the staff about not informing her that her burger order was not vegetarian.

The video has garnered over 237,000 views on TikTok as of Nov. 12.

'Her duty to ask, instead of blaming staff': Online users

In the comments, many online users expressed that it is the responsibility of the customer to specify her dietary preferences and check with the staff before placing her order.

Some users pointed out that just because McDonald's in India has vegetarian options, the woman should not expect all outlets around the world to operate similarly.
