An individual unrelated to the Taiwanese influencer who died in Malaysia have reportedly tried to pose as her family to claim and repatriate her body back to Taiwan.

The 31-year-old deceased, Hsieh Yu-hsin, also known as Iris Hsieh, passed away on Oct. 22 while she was believed to have been with Malaysian rapper Namewee in Kuala Lumpur.

Her body is currently still at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital, reported China Press.

Claimed to be relative

Police told China Press that one individual claimed to be Hsieh's relative and tried to claim her body.

He also apparently said he was authorised to claim the body.

However, his claims were riddled with inconsistencies, and his surname did not match Hsieh's, which raised suspicions.

The person reportedly gave up after repeated questioning by the police and hospital staff.

He was eventually removed from the scene.

It was previously reported that Hsieh's family is expected to fly to Malaysia to claim her remains.

They are expected to cremate her body in Malaysia and bring her ashes back to Taiwan.

Iris Hsieh's death

Hsieh, a Taiwanese influencer, was in Malaysia for work when she passed away on Oct. 22.

It is believed that Namewee and Hsieh had been working on filming a video together and were discussing matters in a Kuala Lumpur hotel room that day.

Namewee has denied taking drugs or being involved in Hsieh's death, but has since turned himself in on Nov. 5 after Malaysia police reclassified the case as a murder probe.

He was originally charged with possession and consumption of drugs on Oct. 24.
