M'sia durian seller, 23, falls to death from carpark, allegedly stressed over failing business
His girlfriend had tried to stop him right before he fell but she had been pushed away.
A 23-year-old durian seller has died after falling from the fourth floor of the Plaza Melaka Raya car park in Melaka, Malaysia on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 6, in what the police believe was linked to stress over his struggling business.
The man, who operated a durian stall in Bukit Cina, was found lifeless on the road at about 12:30 pm, according to reports from Malaysian media.
The incident
The Central Melaka District police chief said that the victim had gone out for lunch with his girlfriend earlier that day at a restaurant, but appeared visibly upset and refused to eat.
“For the past three to four days, the victim often complained of sadness and depression to his girlfriend after his durian business declined,” the police chief, Christopher Patit, said in a statement, according to the Malaysia Gazette.
Authorities reported that after leaving the restaurant, the victim drove to Plaza Melaka Raya.
Upon parking on the fourth floor, he allegedly told his girlfriend that he needed to pee, before suddenly running off and falling from the building.

Medical personnel from Melaka Hospital confirmed that the man died at the scene.
Ongoing police investigation
Police investigation found no criminal elements, and the case has been classified as a sudden death, reported the Malaysia Gazette.
Christopher also said that the deceased had three prior criminal records, though investigations indicated that the incident was primarily linked to distress over his declining business rather than financial debts.
The victim’s body was sent to the forensic medicine department at Melaka Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
“The forensic team has conducted a thorough inspection of the scene and collected blood samples for further investigation,” Christopher added, as reported by Kosmo.
Melaka Police said that investigation into the case remains ongoing.
