Chinese influencer, assumed missing, arrested in Cambodia for suspected involvement in scams & human trafficking
She became uncontactable and missed her return flight, sparking concerns.
An influencer from China, previously feared missing on holiday in Cambodia, was revealed to have been arrested for suspected involvement in online scams and human trafficking.
Zhang Mucheng, popularly known online as "Sister Orange", was arrested by the police in Cambodia on Nov. 13, local authorities told The Cambodia China Times.
The 26-year-old had travelled to Cambodia in early November, purportedly to visit her boyfriend who owns a restaurant there.
It was likely that she became uncontactable since Nov. 12 as she got arrested.
She then missed her Nov. 13 return flight to China, which made her family, friends, and fans worried about her safety.
Suspected offences
Zhang has been accused of being involved in various online fraud activities, and working with criminal gangs to facilitate in cross-border human trafficking from October to November 2025.
An unnamed source told The Cambodia China Times that the earnings from these alleged crimes went to a bank account registered under Zhang's name.
Under Cambodia's criminal code, fraud can be punishable by imprisonment of two to five years.
Under the country's Law on the Suppression of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation, a person convicted of engaging in unlawful cross-border transfers can be imprisoned between seven and 15 years.
On Nov. 15, a detention order was issued under both these laws to transfer Zhang to Phnom Penh's Prey Sar Prison, the largest prison in Cambodia, where she is currently held while awaiting trial.
Before Zhang's arrest was revealed, her sister and friends had raised a potential missing person alert on Douyin and Weibo, calling for more information.
Her fans had also organised a crowdfunding campaign to support Zhang's family in their search for her in Cambodia.
