Baey Yam Keng goes on a run, collides with cyclist riding against traffic flow
He sustained abrasions on his chest and knee.
Minister of State for Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and Ministry of Transport Baey Yam Keng sustained minor injuries after colliding with a cyclist on Nov. 24.
In a Facebook post on Nov. 25, he said that he had "met with a little accident" while out on a run on a one-way road.
Did not notice cyclist who was riding against traffic flow
In the post, Baey said that he was running along the pavement and had to cross the road when the incident occurred.
He noted that the one-way road in the area "usually" has "very light vehicular traffic".
"I checked out the direction to my right where traffic might be coming and proceeded to run across the road when there were no vehicles in sight," he wrote.
However, he did not realise that there was a cyclist on his left side, and could not "stop in time" before they collided into each other.
Baey wrote: "I fell and landed on my right knee. She toppled but managed not to fall."
He also noted that the cyclist view's was blocked by a tall bush by the road, preventing her from spotting him.
According to Baey, she was "very apologetic", but he had assured her that his injuries were "only superficial".
He said that she was "riding against the traffic flow", but noted that the road is "really a very quiet road" in the estate, adding that the cyclist "really couldn't see" him "in advance".
"I should have been more careful and check out directions before running across the road," Baey said.
"Sometimes, accidents happen due to lapses of attention or oversights. I think both of us had to bear some responsibility. Fortunately I just had light abrasions."
In his post, Baey shared photos of his injuries, which included an abrasion on the left side of his chest and one on his knee.
He also shared a photo of his mobile phone, which was slightly shattered at the bottom of the screen.
"My phone had it worse!" Baey wrote.
