Singaporean actor-producer Zheng Geping has been presented with a Public Service Medal from President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on Nov. 16.

Zheng previously shared in August that he had been conferred the award, also known as Pingat Bakti Masyarakat (PBM), for his contributions to the Woodlands community for the past 15 years.

He finally received his medal at the National Day Investiture 2025 ceremony at ITE College Central in Ang Mo Kio.

15 years of volunteer work

The 61-year-old is among the 7,210 people recognised for their contributions to Singapore on the 2025 National Day Awards list.

In an Instagram post, Zheng said he was "deeply humbled and honoured" to receive the award from the president.

He also thanked Woodlands grassroots adviser Mariam Jaafar for the nomination and her unwavering support.

"Thank you for your leadership, guidance, and trust. It is a privilege to serve alongside you and our wonderful Woodlands CCC family. I truly appreciate every one of you for your encouragement and partnership," he wrote.

Zheng also thanked his family for their support and contribution to volunteer as well.

"I will continue to serve our community with dedication and heart," he wrote.

Does not live in Woodlands

In an interview in August, Zheng said he does not live in Woodlands but started serving in the Woodlands Citizens' Consultative Committee (CCC) after a friend urged him to.

He joined the team out of curiosity, wanting to know what the community volunteer group does, he told Shin Min Daily News.

Later, he discovered that volunteering was very meaningful, and thought, he should do his best to give back to the community.

Zheng explained that he did various kinds of work, such as distributing items to underprivileged families, performing at festive events, fundraising, and assisting at Meet-the-People sessions.

"I've never thought about taking on any position in the community. I would just help out whenever time permits," he said.

He was not able to volunteer when he was filming or going abroad for work, but he would try his best to arrange his schedule so that he could spare time to do so.
