Dog dies after alleged hit-&-run at Hougang car park, family appealing for witnesses
The dog was covered in blood and its head was described to be "flattened".
A dog was reportedly killed in a hit-and-run incident at an open-air carpark in Hougang on Nov. 17.
The incident took place at around 10:25am, near Block 541 Hougang Street 51.
Hit-and-run
Speaking to Mothership, the owner’s son, Gerrard, said his father had been walking their Jack Russell-Maltese mix, Girl Girl, that morning when the incident occurred.
The dog had not been leashed at the time.
Gerrard explained that the family typically allows Girl Girl to roam briefly off-leash when she relieves herself outdoors, before leashing her again.
His father had done so and walked ahead. But when he called out to Girl Girl, she did not respond.
He turned around and saw Girl Girl lying motionless on the ground as a car drove away.
Girl Girl was covered in blood, and her head was described to be "flattened".
Photos shared on Facebook showed Girl Girl with blood on her snout, ear, and forehead.

Driver did not stop to help
Gerrard said that the car was the only vehicle in the vicinity at the time, which is why the family believes it was the one that struck her even though they did not witness the collision firsthand.
He acknowledged that allowing Girl Girl to be unleashed was a lapse on the family's part and that they take "full responsibility".
But he stressed that it did not justify a hit-and-run.
What troubled the family the most was that the driver left the scene without stopping to help.

Searching for witnesses
His father, who Gerrard says suffers from mild dementia, was unable to recall any specific details, such as the vehicle colour or model.
As such, Gerrard and his family are currently appealing for witnesses.
He added in his Facebook post that a reward would be given.
If the driver does not come forward by the end of the day, the family intends to file a police report, he told Mothership.
