S'porean man, 51, dies in 3-vehicle crash in Johor after motorcycle loses control
The other two car drivers involved in the collision survived.
A 51-year-old Singaporean man died after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a three-vehicle collision along the Batu Pahat–Mersing road in Johor on Nov. 16, reported Malaysian media.
The accident happened at around 4:30pm, involving a Yamaha T-Max motorcycle, a Nissan Grand Livina multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), and a Perodua Kancil car.
The accident
Initial investigations by the Kluang district police found that the Singaporean rider had been travelling from Mersing towards Kluang when he attempted to overtake a Nissan MPV travelling in the same direction, according to a police statement via this post.
After overtaking the MPV, the motorcycle is believed to have lost control and veered into the opposite lane, where it collided with a car driven by a 43-year-old Malaysian man.
The impact subsequently caused the car to lose control as well, sending it back across the road and into the same MPV the rider had overtaken earlier.
Singaporean died at the scene
The Singaporean motorcycle rider sustained severe bodily injuries and died at the scene, reported Berita Harian Malaysia.
The car driver suffered injuries to his face, chest and legs and is receiving treatment at Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang.
The MPV driver, 43, was unharmed.
Case under investigation
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Authorities advised motorists to remain cautious and considerate on the roads to prevent such incidents.
