A 20-year-old woman in Singapore was sentenced to 12 months' probation on Oct. 27 after she filed a false report claiming that she had been raped.

Claris Ling Min Rui had done so after a 43-year-old man she met online refused to pay her S$1,200 for sex, according to CNA.

What happened

Ling had reportedly met the man through the dating platform Sugarbook.

The pair agreed to meet in March 2025 after he offered to pay her S$200.

They later had consensual sex in a hotel after meeting at a bar.

Ling then asked him for S$1,200, which the man refused, but was later offered S$500 after she scolded him.

She rejected the amount and threatened to report him for rape.

Later on, she also texted him: "You're f***ed."

Ling initially told police the rape claim was true, but later admitted she had fabricated it when the man refused to pay.

Pleaded guilty, sentenced to probation and community service

Ling had pleaded guilty in September 2025 to two charges: Giving false information to a public servant, and causing alarm by threatening to report the man for rape.

She was sentenced to 12 months of supervised probation, which requires her to stay indoors from 10pm to 6am, unless otherwise allowed.

She was also ordered to complete 60 hours of community service.

To ensure she followed probation rules, her parents also furnished a S$5,000 bond.
