M'sian sells Pokémon card collection for RM1.87 million (S$580,000)

A Malaysian Pokémon card collector has successfully sold his extensive and rare collection for a staggering RM1.87 million (S$580,000).

The announcement of the successful sale came just days after the collector, Damiral Imran, publicly shared that he was looking for a buyer.

The collection was said to hold immense value in the global trading scene.

It included highly sought-after bundles and limited-edition cards.

The buyer is a fellow Malaysian, it was revealed.

Wanted RM1.8 million at least

The collector initially offered two options for his remuneration: RM1.8 million (S$550,000) in cash, or a Porsche Carrera S and a top-up of RM1 million (S$310,000) cash.

He received three bids: RM1.52 million, RM1.65 million, and RM1.68 million.

According to screenshots from Shiny, a global card-valuation tracker, the full collection was valued at about RM2 million (S$620,000).

The collector revealed that roughly RM1.62 million (about S$500,000) was spent amassing the collection over the years.

Sale announcement

"My Pokémon card collection has OFFICIALLY BEEN SOLD for RM1,870,000! From a small room in Shah Alam to making history in the Pokémon world. This is more than a sale, this is a story of passion, grind, and legacy,” he wrote, following the sale.

He added that every card, box, and sleepless night was worth it, and that the sale marks “not the end, but the beginning of something greater”.

Photographs uploaded previously showed the collection authenticated and rated for condition by the U.S.-based Professional Sports Authenticator.

Pokémon cards were first released in Japan in 1996.

Some rare cards can fetch six-figure prices.
