A 50-year-old Ukrainian sailor, Skripnik Oleksandr, molested two women at Lucky Plaza shopping mall in the Orchard area.

The man pleaded guilty to two counts of outrage of modesty on Oct. 8, qccording to The Straits Times,

Two counts of voluntarily causing hurt, one charge of uttering words and making a gesture intended to insult the modesty of another person, and another charge of being a public nuisance were also considered during his sentencing.

Oleksandr disembarked from a vessel in Singapore on Aug. 27 and was due to fly to the Netherlands four days later on Aug. 31, according to the deputy public prosecutor.

Smiled and apologised after molesting the victim

On Aug. 30, the first victim, who was a security supervisor at Lucky Plaza, was returning to her office after patrolling the mall when she spotted Oleksandr and his friend walking in her direction.

The two were intoxicated, and were talking and laughing loudly.

When Oleksandr, who had had earlier consumed at least two cans of beer in a pub in the mall, walked past the victim, he grabbed her jacket, hugged her waist tightly and molested her.

He then smiled and apologised to her before walking away with his friend.

The victim returned to her office and informed her colleague, who contacted the police.

Oleksandr was arrested at around 2:40am, but was later released the same day.

Molested the second victim at a convenience store

Just two days later, on Sep. 1, Oleksandr molested yet another woman at a convenience store in the same mall.

The second victim, who worked at the store, was arranging food items in a chiller when Oleksandr approached her with his private part exposed.

He made a remark intended to insult her modesty, before proceeding to molest her.

Despite the victim walking away, Oleksandr continued to approach her and tried to speak to her.

The victim sought help from her male colleague and hid in the storeroom.

Oleksandr was arrested on Sep. 3 and released the following day, but was later arrested for the third and final time on Sep. 7.

He was charged in court on Sep. 9 and has been in remand since.

"I feel really sorry. I want to apologise."

According to ST, during mitigation in court, Oleksandr said through an interpreter: "I feel really sorry. I want to apologise."

He further added that he "understood that [he] shouldn't drink at all".

The judge described Oleksandr's molestation of the first victim as intrusive and deliberate, while his actions towards the second victim was a demeaning intrusion into her private part.

"Your pursuit of the victim after she walked away is a further aggravating factor," the judge told Oleksandr.
