Bukit Batok Driving Centre to close by end-2030, new multi-storey driving centre to open in Choa Chu Kang
It will make way for new residential developments, said authorities.
Bukit Batok Driving Centre will make way for new homes by end-2030, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and Singapore Police Force (SPF) said.
It will be replaced by a new multi-storey "Next Generation Driving Centre" (NGDC) for all vehicle classes at Lorong Bistari in Choa Chu Kang, according to an Oct. 8 joint press release by URA and SPF.
The 24,889 sqm site can be developed for a maximum permissible gross floor area of 72,500 sqm, for driving circuits and other related facilities.
More about the new centre
The NGDC will be equipped with simulator technology for training and testing purposes, and intelligent driving circuits with "advanced sensor technology and real-time monitoring systems" to assess learners' proficiency and ensure consistency of training, URA and SPF said.
It will also have training and testing facilities for Class 4 and 5 heavy vehicle licences, which are currently only offered at the Singapore Safety Driving Centre (SSDC) in Woodlands.
Separate circuits for training and testing will be built at the NGDC.
It will be the second multi-storey driving school in Singapore, after the SSDC.
The NGDC will have at least two driving circuits of at least 20,000 sqm, which can be used for circuit assessments.
It will also have at least two nursery circuits catering to learner motorists.
At least 5,050 sqm will be set aside for ancillary uses such as classrooms, simulator training facilities, administration offices, a customer service area, and a multi-purpose hall.
It will have at least one cafeteria or canteen.
Tender put up by the authorities
URA and SPF said that Bukit Batok Driving Centre is being phased out by December 2030 as part of plans to redevelop the area for new residential developments.
The land parcel for Lorong Bistari — which will house the new NGDC — was put up for sale by tender on Oct. 8.
Lorong Bistari is currently an access road located next to Kranji Camp, on the western fringe of Choa Chu Kang town.
The site is accessible from Yew Tee MRT station and nearby bus stops.
The deadline for tender submission is Jan. 15, 2026. The lease period will be for 30 years.
The 30,000 sqm Bukit Batok Driving Centre was officially opened on Apr. 6, 1990.
The centre has been serving trainee motorists in western Singapore for over three decades.
Singapore currently has two other driving centres, SSDC in the north and ComfortDelGro Driving Centre in the east of Singapore.
