About 80 former employees of local bakery chain Twelve Cupcakes were left jobless overnight after learning "at the last minute" that the company had gone into provisional liquidation, leaving them scrambling to pay rent and buy food.

Fundraiser

A group of affected staff are preparing a fundraiser on Give.asia to raise S$100,000 to help them cover rent, food and basic expenses while waiting for updates from the liquidator.

The campaign, titled “Help raise funds to support Twelve Cupcakes staffs affected by shutdown”, was started by employee Geraldine Eroles and is currently pending approval on the site.

“These staff members have not received their last month’s payment and are struggling to feed their families and cover basic expenses,” reads the fundraiser draft.

“With no timeline for when they might receive any compensation, they are in a dire situation and need assistance to make ends meet.”

Affected staff

Employees said to Mothership they were informed of the closure only at 8:00pm on Oct. 29, which was the last day for operations for the bakery and when the provisional liquidation would commence.

In the WhatsApp conversation with Mothership, a worker also described former employees in tears at the MOM centre: “Now all of us (are) crying in MOM. How (to) pay rent by today?”

One employee wrote that the older staff were “crying and hugging each other,” adding that the abrupt job loss had caused a “mental health breakdown for all of us.”

For the ex-staff of Twelve Cupcakes, who have allegedly not even received their previous month's pay, they feel as though they were "used" until the very last minute, and now they have nothing.

According to the employee termination letter seen by Mothership, the ex-employee is asked to submit any claims they may have with regards to pay via a Proof of Debt to the company.

Liquidation

AAG Corporate Advisory confirmed that Twelve Cupcakes was placed under provisional liquidation on Oct. 29, 2025.

In the statement, AAG told Mothership that they are currently gathering information and a creditors’ meeting will be convened within four weeks to update on the liquidation’s progress.

They are also “working with FDAWU (Food, Drink and Allied Workers Union) to provide relevant assistance to former employees affected by the closure”.

AAG subsequently highlighted that they are not able to provide any further details regarding operations, finances or the reasons for the liquidation until they have obtained the relevant information.
