1 M'sian dead, 5 S'poreans injured after Ipoh-bound express bus crashes into signpost in Selangor

According to the Malaysian police, the bus driver had supposedly lost control.

WhatsappA passenger died after a Super Nice express bus travelling along the North-South Highway in Selangor skidded and crashed into a signpost on the morning of Oct. 11, at about 3:15am.

The driver and other passengers on the bus, including five Singaporeans were injured, Malaysian media Bernama reported.

The bus had been travelling from Boon Lay to Ipoh in Perak.

Malaysia police: Bus driver allegedly lost control

According to the Kajang police chief, Naazron Abdul Yusof, the 60-year-old bus driver had supposedly lost control of the bus, before veering into a ditch and crashing into a pole at the 293km mark of the North-South Highway, in the direction of Kuala Lumpur.

A total of 29 people were on the bus, including the driver.

Four of them were rescued from the bus by firefighters while the others had managed to crawl out of the bus before the firefighters arrived, the New Straits Times reported.

The Malaysian who died was a 59-year-old worker in the construction industry in Singapore, Naazron added.

He sustained severe head injuries and had been seated at the front of the bus.

The other people on the bus are currently being treated at five different hospitals — Hospital Sultan Idris Shah Serdang, Hospital Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin Kajang, Hospital Putrajaya, Hospital Cyberjaya and Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar Seremban.

The case is currently being investigated for reckless driving causing death, which carries a jail term of five to 10 years, a fine of up to RM50,000 (S$15,360) and disqualification from driving for at least five years if convicted.
