Scoot says no evidence of bed bugs found after passenger complaint, reiterates 'stringent cleanliness' on flights
Scoot apologised for the customer's experience and said it would continue to follow up with her.
After a Scoot passenger reported developing itchy bites the day after her flight, which she said resembled that of bed bugs, the airline conducted an investigation.
But it did not find any evidence of bed bugs, Scoot said in an Oct. 27 statement.
"We recognise that aircraft cleanliness is important in ensuring a pleasant travel experience for our customers," a spokesperson told Mothership.
The airline has "stringent cleanliness and hygiene processes" in place, including regular deep cleaning and pest treatment on all aircraft, the spokesperson said.
Scoot also apologised for the customer's experience and said it would continue to follow up with her.
Mouldy seatbelt, bad smell
The passenger told Mothership that she'd flown on a Scoot TR417 flight from Penang to Singapore on Oct. 19.
While onboard, she noticed a "strong, unpleasant odour" coming from her seat, and a seatbelt that appeared "mouldy".
As it was a short flight, she decided to tolerate the smell.
But the next morning, she developed intensely itchy red bumps on her thigh that resembled bed bug bites.
The person seated next to her also suffered minor bites after the flight.

According to a doctor's memo shared by the passenger, the rash was caused by insect bites, although the insect in question wasn't specified.
She reported the matter to Scoot afterwards, and received a reply several days later.
