Angry at a five-year-old boy for misbehaving, a programme staff at a care service for kindergarten children grabbed him by the arm and flung his chair away.

She also flew into a rage at two other children, aged four and five.

The 35-year-old Singaporean woman's actions were later discovered via CCTV when a child's parent lodged a complaint after the child said they were afraid to attend the care service.

She was eventually sentenced to six months’ jail on Oct. 28 for two counts of causing children unnecessary pain.

There is a gag order covering the details of the victims, the accused and the location of offence to protect the victims' identities.

Grabbed their arms and flung chairs

According to court documents seen by Mothership, the woman's responsibilities included taking care of a class of about 12 to 13 kindergarten students on weekdays from 7am to 1pm.

On Jul. 25, 2024, she had been supervising two classes of about 24 students while they had lunch.

At about 11:53am, she became angry because she felt that the first victim — a five-year-old boy, was misbehaving.

She went over to him and grabbed his arm with one hand, pulled him to the side and flung away his chair with her other hand.

Second victim

The woman then dragged him by the arm over to where the second victim — a four-year-old girl, was standing.

She was also angry at the girl and flung her chair away, shouting at her to eat her lunch.

When the girl did not move, the woman grabbed her arm and pulled her over to the table, which caused the girl to collide with the table.

The woman then shouted at the girl again to eat her lunch.

She turned her attention backed to the first victim and pushed him towards the wall.

When he turned back to look at her, she pushed him again, causing him to fall forwards onto the floor, with his head almost hitting the wall.

Third victim

After doing so, the woman noticed the third victim — another five-year-old boy, who was sitting nearby.

She thought that he was laughing and got angry at him.

She hoisted him up by the arm and pulled him away from his chair, past his table.

She then pushed him towards the wall, causing him to also fall forward onto the floor.

The woman then went back to the table and threw two chairs into the open space on the other side of the classroom.

She then reprimanded the two boys.

When she noticed that the first victim was walking away, she grabbed his arm and pulled him back.

She then instructed him to pick up and replace the chairs that she had flung, which he did.

All three students did not seek medical attention.

Actions caught on CCTV

The next day, the care service received a complaint from the parent of a child who attended the care service, saying that their child was afraid to attend the care service due to the woman’s behaviour.

Employees of the care service provider then viewed CCTV footage taken at the centre and alerted the police when they discovered the woman's actions.
